Genevieve Mead papers, 1968-1971.

The bulk of the collection is composed of newspaper clippings dating from 1968-1970, documenting the formation of the first library in Douglas County, Colo. Also included are programs for the dedication of the Douglas County Public Library in 1969 and the first annual Douglas County on Parade, also in 1969, which was a fundraiser for the new library.

Genevieve Nichols Mead moved to Castle Rock, Colo. with her family in 1963. Seeing a need for a library in the area, she began discussions within the Douglas County community and founded the Douglas County Friends of the Library in 1966. In 1967, she formad the Douglas County History Roundtable and was appointed to the first Board of Trustees for the library which was dedicated in 1969.
